timing instructions for martek 1000
I have a 1978 gl1000 with martek 1000 electronic ignition runs good but I would like to know how to set timing or at least understand what to replace it with when i need to thanks

i'm not familiar with the martek, generally you set the gap for the pickup(s) then you time them just like points, either statically but ideally with a timing gun
dunno if parts are available but you should be able to go back to points or go with another electronic system like dyna

I had a Martek in my 1978 Gl1000 and all I did was static time it and that was it and I never touched it for the eighteen years I owned it and the bike never missed a beat.

I bought a Prestolite electonic ignition way back in '77 and it's still working well on my '75. Like Dave said, I static time mine but I carry a spare breaker assembly on board just in case...
Not sure but I think a Martek ignition may be similar to a Prestolite and a Prestolite manual might help. I think I seen the manual posted here in ShopTalk or PM me if interested in a copy.
