If you are getting 14.8 at idle, just increase the RPM's to 3K and see if it creeps past 15vdc. If so, then yes you are overcharging. I have found on two of my 1100's that the overcharging was caused by the RR plug being dirty at the connections and not getting a good read on the sense wire. Pulled the plug, clean connections on both sides and back in. Solved it on both bikes. Average charge voltage running 14.6 at the highest and actually drops a bit at higher RPM but never below 13.2vdc.

I chased starting/battery issues for awhile...Rebuilt starter, charging battery, etc. My problem was finally solved when someone said "make sure you clean the contact point between the starter case and the engine case" problem solved! Just one more detail in the mix!

All part of the adventure...

I solved my charging issues by grounding the rectifier directly to the negative battery post.

Finally got a chance to dig into this. Here are my results.

Battery, cold: 12.4v
Charging, @ idle: 14.85-14.91v (minimal change from 1k to 4k RPM).

Jump wire from black wire at regulator to pos. battery terminal -
Charging, @ idle: 14.49-14.56v (minimal change at higher RPM).
Battery 12.8v key off
