turn signals?

#1

Post by dstrat1 »

trid to put the fairing on today,, checked with battery, what powered turn left and right , running lights and high and low beams...hooked it up, one turn signal is too bright, one works normal, and one does not flash..ideas..if i used the battery all work right, when hooked to bike, turn signal makes a funny groaning sound before flashing.. ran both running lights to the same source, and when i separated them the indicator returned to normal, but flashing still not right...ideas?

A little more information is needed to better suggest what to look for. What year bike? Stock fairing, or aftermarket? Stock signals, original wiring? Aftermarket signals? LED bulbs? Stock flasher?

Stock 78, shadow Royale fairing, no leds ,, pulled the original vetter off when I got it, put stock front turn signals on, worked fine for the last month.... Put the Royale fairing on the garage floor with a battery to determine what went where... Only difference I can find is one wire powers all running lights on the Royale, while the 78 has a left and right hook up for running lights, head light has a high beam, low beam, and I presume ground... When I joined the running lights on the fairing, ie ran the one power line to both on the 78 chassis, I got a constant right turn indication, on the indicator panel, that would still flash whenright turn was selected... But one running light was brighter than the other, and one turn signal would not flash.... Checked bulbs, all ok

An insufficient ground path supply can cause all sorts of electrical tomfoolery. :-?

Especially when a fairing is involved. :oldies

+1 on the ground. You might also have a short to ground somewhere in the turn/running light circuit. You could also try running just one of the running light leads from the bike to the fairing and see if it makes a difference. My 2 cents...
