well the shadow 500 didn't last long..

I took it on a couple of 1 hour + rides, 1 of them being with some friends who all had bigger bikes and that was an eye opener. They were cruising at 60 mph easily and I was pushing the 500 hard to keep up.
I knew "she who must be obeyed" wouldn't like that or feel comfortable doing it.
And speaking of comfortable..well this bike isn't..
So..it's for sale..after I replaced it with this.

Most of us have ridden the little bikes as young bucks and thought nothing of riding long miles at nearly full throttle to keep up with traffic. When 16 years old I have gone 150 mile round trip rides on a 72 CL100 honda and thought it was great. then got a CB350 and thought how great that was. But long distances at highway speeds on small cc bikes is no longer for me. Great around town and short runs. Cross winds and turbulence from trucks is tough on light little bikes. I sold my VTX600 for the same reason. Each has its place.

After about 20 different dirt bikes my first road bike was a XL175 enduro then I moved up to a XL350 then to a 750F then to a GL1000. Each one was special at the time!!

The 500 is a blast around town..but around town isn't what we got into biking for. We have a lot or rural roads around here we want to ride on and some highway trips..
We bought the 500 with every intention of getting her something bigger and newer..just didn't think it would be this quick. lol

After riding two-up with camping gear for several hundred miles (around Lake Superior in the rain mostly) on a CB 750, this about 1974, I decided I definitely needed a larger bike. The new GoldWings were being advertised and I wanted one. Well I had to wait a few years (40 or so) but I finally got one. Now my wife has her own trike and we haven't camped in a tent for many years but the open road still goes by faster/smoother on a Wing.
Bikes at present:

83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process :IDTS:

The 750 will do for now. If she wants a bigger bike later then maybe I'll look for another old wing...although the last time we were at the Honda bike dealer picking up parts she was walking around looking at the new Harley's..
