MY PROPANE POWERD WING

#1

Post by Hydrocarbon Rocket »

HEY ALL. I LIVE IN TENNESSE AND I JUST BUILT MY 84 1200 ASPENCADE TO RUN ON PROPANE. I'M A MANAGER AT A LOCAL PROPANE FACILI TY SO, I LOVE PROPANE AND PROPANE ASSECCORIES.

I'VE BEEN TRYING TO REGISTER ON HERE FOR A DAY OR TWO AND FINALLY GOT THRU ON MY 2ND REGISTERED NAME.

ANYWAY HERE IS SOME PICS OF MY BUILD AND PRESENT CONDITION. I DON'T NORMALLY TAKE ENOUGH PICS AND THEY ARE CERTANLY NOT GOOD. I STILL HAVE ALOT LEFT 2 DO. I STARTED THIS 2 FRIDAYS AGO AND HAVE ONLY GOT TO WORK ON IT ABOUT 18 HOURS. FOR NOW I'M GOING FOR FUNCTION BEFORE BEUTY AS I NEED TO TAKE A TRIP ON THIS THING IN THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST.

O YEA, IT WILL RUN 92MPH IN 2ND GEAR. ITS GOT A DAKOTA DIGITAL TACH/SPEEDO CALIBRATED WITH MY GPS. DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL MILAGE IT'LL GET YET. TANK WILL HOLD 8 GALLON. IT SHOULD GET AT LEAST 36MPG.

Now that's a chuckle, one of my friends was thinking of doing something similar with a sidecar for the tank.
Enjoy life,

27 times more puncture proof than a common gasoline tank with no vapor or vents to worry with.

I kept the original carbs for the throttle body, removed the breather box top and capped, removed the metervalves from the center of the carbs. With all top caps removed I built a box to adapt 1 propane mixer per 2 carbs. The center section is left open so that 1 mixer will still run both sides if neccecary. Keeping both sides open also help with tuning, bout the only thing i need to put in sinc is the vacum on each throtle body.

Yes, 92mph in 2nd gear! Is 11000rpm to much for a wing engine?

No, but that is one of the most realistic life like shows I've ever seen. Seems like you know someone just like each caracter. I don't watch it anymore cause it says too many bad words.

No, I wouldn't think so. They have pretty heavy duty crankshafts and rods and with the mechanically adjusted valves, they should be able to handle it.

looks like a 1200 to me with the hydraulic valve lashers . I think the factory redline on the 1200 is around 7500 rpm-8000 rpm . 11000 rpm thats up there. jb

I wouldnt run that high very often. Stock valves are pretty heavy and old stock valve springs are not made for that. It is a pretty cool project though.
