ASBobber Project
Insprired by My Friend KMR and his Machine my Own GL1100 Project begins shortly.
No images yet as I am but a simple Rusty Probe currently, but here is the vision:
82' GL1100 with only 5,000 miles, this may be way off though as the speedo is off about 30%
07' GSXR 750 Fork
07' CBR Hand controls
Spoked wheels most likely Excel rims
Renthal twintube riser bar
twin Fox DHX 5.0 9.5" Coil overs with adjustable air/oil rebound, and bottom out control (these are downhill Mountain bike shocks)
Raw Copper tins where needed with lots of hammered rivits
08' BMW M5 headlamp
And Heated grips (My F800GS spoiled me with that little item)
Everything not necessary will be cast off and stripped down.
The bike was in pretty good working order and for about 4 months I road it around south eastern PA. Now I'm just looking forward getting started. I have many of the parts at hand already and hope this turns out to be a succesful and fun project for all.

Re: ASBobber Project
Is the general idea that we will now link photos to the forum from a Photobucket type site or from a Members Gallery hosted here. I worry about broken links using photobucket later on down the road which could end up being very frustrating. Only a few more posts and I will have to figure this out.

Re: ASBobber Project
I've made a little more progress for the past few days.
Between grinding and cutting things off and trying to figure out this wiring harness and how to disect it to just what I want and what I want to add. I think its time to get a real manual on this Beastie any suggestions who has the best out there.

Re: ASBobber Project
I've been messing around with the geometry of the of the bike a little and I think this is the where abouts of what I want it to be. also gives me a nice template to do some fuel tank sketches as well as seat height etc. I'm sure ill end up printing and doodling on about 100 of these. also stocked up on 1" and 3/4 steel tubing to do some bending and adding to the frame and swing arm. so far the whole pipe bending thing isn't going to well good thing I got 40' of tubing.

Re: ASBobber Project
Looks like a plan. I likes. Hate to be computer illiterate, but I am. What program allows you to do those drawings?
If we can't fix it, we can fix it so no one else can.

Re: ASBobber Project
The Drawing was done. in AutoCAD a program I use quite a bit in my career. it took a bit of measuring to draw it up but its a great tool to help me figure out how and where to mount the rear suspension as well as rake and trail setups. in the end I think it will save me some shop time on setting up wrong.
for instance this set up here give me 25 degrees rake and 4.6" of trail however the current rear suspenion shown in the drawing has 9.6" of rear travel. which I think might be a little excessive. I'd prefer it in the 5" - 6" neighborhood
