32/36 weber conversion
Well needed something to get me riding while I await parts for the original carbs; so I whiped up this configuration for cheap. Had a VW carb kicking around with Type #3 manifold so I bought Dayco 81111 radhose that comes with a stainless spring inside. I cut 3 down to 5 3/4" and #1 at 6". Used #24 x 5/16 wide stainless clamps on elbows and 1 3/4 - 2 1/4 x 1/2" wide on the manifold. Made a simple thottle cable bracket and drilled and taped a boss blank on carb to hold it. The only thing needed is a stiffening spring for the primary thottle shaft because the primary moves way to easy and causes a suprise burst with slight twist. A spring will cure that. I also cut of the fuel inlet / filter so it would fit between the frame rails. It fired right up and runs fantastic. I like the kick you get when you hit the secondary.

Re: While I rebuild my carbs
Others who have done similarly have had the rubber tubes sag under heat. Maybe the springs are enough?? Ingenuity.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: While I rebuild my carbs
They were my inspiration. In wanted to ride so I did a little homework and found a piece by a Dayco rubber engineer who said that "exposure to pump gas might cause some swelling"... due to them being made from EPDM and not Viton. I hope it works for awhile. The springs are the key for they stop it from constricting girthwise however before I hard mounted everything you could see the whole thing pull downward from the vacuum forces when I rev the engine.ericheath wrote:Others who have done similarly have had the rubber tubes sag under heat. Re: While I rebuild my carbs
Ready to ride yee haw!
Took her for a spin and boy does she run nice! just a couple little odds and ends to button up and she'll be ready for some longer shakedowns. I pulled one of the radhoses off after a run and the inside was dry as a bone; that's a good news for longevity of the rubber. I thought I was going to have to play with the jetting other than a 170 air jet that I installed but she's fine; plugs are coming around from black. I might stick with this setup if the gas mileage is as good as I've read.

Re: While I rebuild my carbs
We're not in Kansas anymore TOTO.
The winters aren't to bad here in SC plus I removed the shield so the radiator will be blowing right on the carb; but if needed I'm sure I'll rig something. Stay tuned

Re: While I rebuild my carbs
ELECTRA is finally done! Time to
I like the Weber 2bbl in that it is easy to work on and dial in and make mannifold runners. If your a HOTROD this setupis not for you but if you like to ride asllot and not work on carbs allot this rig is the best not to mension the gas mileage. I also love my $40 GM alternator. The 2 biggest problems / complaints on this site I have overcome for cheap
. If you don't have skills you'll need plenty of $$$$ for a Stator replacement and the same for the stock carbs and most likely you'll have reacurring problems; that drive many to hate WINGS.

What kind of seat is that? It looks really good. The whole bike does, actually.

Re: While I rebuild my carbs
Thanks, It is from a 94 Seca I modified and recovered it. However to make it fit/ work you'll have to chop your gas tank.SloMo228 wrote:What kind of seat is that? It looks really good. The whole bike does, actually.
