Project Shed wreck

#1

Post by Blubber »

Hi All,

It's been a while since i introduced myself but sometimes life gives you an odd ball :IDTS:

I am slowly getting back to modifying my 80's GL1100.

I have no "before" pics but it was your average neglected red goldwing with a very hard life.

I have made some during pics (all with my phone)

test fit

rough idea

the exhaust i am planning on using

At this moment i am busy grafting a matching real wheel into the swing arm :orange

Thats gonna be my next post.

As promised the rear wheel mod.

I wanted to use a 3 spoke to match the front.

After looking at 3 spokes with a drive on the right i picked a ST1100 non ABS rear wheel.

Attached a series of pics. I think most of you get the idea of whats involved getting things to fit.

And...... beverages consumed

then go see a buddy with a special lathe

to end up with a rim with one bearing holder lolol

and then after a lot of cutting an grinding more result

My favorite tools

and the hole saw. I use the casted pillars in the "new" hub as a guide.
Image

Now to mate the original hub to the new wheel i made this adapter.
Image

small mods to make the adapter with without a hammer.
Image

prep work for welding by my 3 year old daughter

The hub now fits in the wheel. Looks easy peasy doesn't it.
This picture set of the wheel took me more than 6 weeks due to joint inflammations. - the earlier mentioned odd ball. Full recovery is within reach. dancr

After this I test fitted the wheel... it almost fits. Had to move the indentation in swing arm to make up for the different tire size.

I just dropped of the wheel to a befriended aluminum welder. The one thing i really had to outsource up till now.

Cant wait to get it back.

Think i will show the raw end result in a week or so :)

I will try and make regular updates type1 depending on progress.

If you do so much work on only the rear wheel, I would love to see the final product. Voorspoed maat.
