So here we are as of now. Lower shock mounts are tacked in place, excess pieces of frame are gone, upper and lower crossmembers are tacked in, plate for the shock mounts is ready to cut and I have started planning out a seat mount. Hope to have more updates in the next week

Looking good! Do you intend to brace/reinforce the swing arm? I'm can't say about the 1200, but every on build like this that I recall, guys have done so. Just curious...

That's a good suggestion from Track T as I did similar to what you are doing with a monoshock, but mine was on the bottom of a 1200 swingarm. After a couple hard bumps one weld let loose and, I'm lucky I heard a cracking sound to investigate. It could have ended badly. Maybe one piece of flat stock from one side to the other behind the flanges for your shocks, and then a little lengthwise to spread the strength?? Stitch small welds to keep it from wanting to warp. It doesn't take much to make one side curl up. At least yours will be easier to keep an eye on.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks for the advice. Are you suggesting that it be under the shock mounts? Or behind and up the sides? I appreciate any help. Also, I will have a plate between the frame for the upper shock mounts. I have ideas on the seat mounts, but yhat will be when I get there

I was thinking behind, but assuming they will lie angled as in your picture. If more upright, they maybe wouldn't need as much rearward support, but still, the actual metal of the swingarm the shock mounts are on is quite thin. I notched mine for the monoshock to fit through to the lower end and was surprised how light the steel was.

I can't thank you guys enough. This is why I love this page. After considering what you guys have said, I have decided to redo the rear suspension mounts. I will use 1/8" plate to reinforce the swingarm, use 1" square tube to make my mounts. I will notch the front for the shock to fit, then trim down on an angle to increase the surface area that is welded. For the upper mounts, I am thinking of going down to 1/8" plate with additional vertical supports. Then use the square tube to make the uppers and leave it long to get the shocks more vertical. I will install gussets on the top of the mounts back to the frame. If anyone has any other suggestions please let me know. Thanks again for the warnings, I had thought the swingarm was stronger and that is why I was using such a large plate for the top. Glad I didn't do it that way and have something break at a bad time

I posted my stuff here. The suggestions from most were to make the top mounts at least as beefy as the bottom. HOTT sent me some picks of the BMW and how they tied it in with tubing. Quite a bit actually. Seeing how the family jewels are right above it, it makes sense to make it strong enough. I'm a novice's novice, so I rely on folks here to save my skin. So far, so good.

One of the reasons mine let go was I welded one of my flanges directly onto the seam of the cross piece of the swingarm. I ground off the old weld, but when I put my new bead down, I didn't spill it over to the main tube of the swingarm. Obvious to a veteran. Only obvious to me after it had cracked. It probably wasn't more than a few more big bumps for me and I may have sliding down the road somewhere.

Being that the brace will not be that large, I would use 3/16" plate instead of the 1/8". It won't add much weight.

Just my opinion, but I would rather it be too strong than not strong enough.

Any update on this?? I've been really pushing the idea of doing a monoshock and would love to see a finished build!
