If a valve shows it hit the piston it's a very good bet it is bent. Doubtful the rings were hurt by the fuel. But if it was hydrolocked you can rotate the engine and check to be sure all the pistons come to the top, or near the top, of their respective cylinder. That eliminates a bent rod.

Don't know who EMSTD is so can't comment on their kits.

What might be the issue with your headlight brackets is that the Goldwing is big and beefy looking and those brackets are small and thin looking to me.

+++1 !!!!! Thankyou so much for your input!
Hydrolock is no joke guys. I didn't think a starter motor had enough power to bend a rod but sure enough, #2 does not fully go into TDC. At this point, it would make more sense to go with a junkyard shortblock vs replacing a rod & associated bearings with new gaskets, correct? While everything is apart, I will be lapping the valves, along with new valve stem seals. Do the heads deform on these bikes? Would it be smart to get the heads decked? Also, I read that the head bolts are re-usable.

You measured the other cylinders to conclude the rod is bent? The pistons on my 1000 don't come all the way to TDC at the cylinder wall. About 0.040" if I remember correctly. I did the same with a 1200 two years ago and, like you didn't think it had enough power (your words lol) to bend a rod. I think it's possible for the gas to pool above an intake that just fired before shutting down, then when cranked, that cylinder rotates quite a ways to its compression stroke and if another cylinder fires, you have the starter motor's force plus the ignition of one cylinder to give enough force to bend the rod.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Tough luck about the rod. A used engine (or parts bike) will certainly be cheaper than the expense of rebuilding your engine.
Bikes at present:

And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair

Remember, I replaced a rod on a CBX for a guy that the starter motor bent. It can happen. ;)

Ah yes, given the extremity of the #2 carb issues that were happening at the time of the hydrolock, that makes perfect sense. I haven't taken measurements. At TDC, each piston crown is flush with the bore edge on cylinders 1 3 and 4. Cylinder 2's piston is no where near its counterparts (pictures in previous reply).

I will start sourcing a replacement engine tonight. If anyone knows of a short or long block GL1100 for sale in the Southeast United States, please send me a tip.

PS. Its high time to change the name of this thread from "The $1000 bike build!" :IDTS: From the start in May 2016, I have collectively spent ~$1,500 on this project.

Keep a 1200 in mind if one shows up. Not a great deal to do to convert 1100 to 1200. You can use your 1100 heads, but I too will be surprised if your valves are not bent.

The valves on all cylinders are holding liquid fine for the most part, so I may have lucked out. The 'scarring' on the left bank exhaust valves appears to only be on the carbon buildup. What does converting to a 1200 short block entail? Will my carbs need to be re-jetted for the extra displacement?

Yes. When you start swapping heads and cams there is a lot more involved.

Possibly found a gl1000 donor bike

Could I use my 1100 carbs? I already bought the carb kit and hate double purchasing :/

A lot of 1000's have 1100 carbs on them. The one in avatar does. Not optimal performance but they work ok for normal everyday riding.

It could be done. But the 1200 carbs are simpler and were DESIGNED for the 1200. I have both the 1200 design, and the 1100 design, and I really prefer the 1200 style
