Show off your paint jobs!

#1

Post by ahcolburn »

Hello friends! I've been lurking on the forum for a while soaking up knowledge as I am slowly fixing up my 75 GL1000, and now it is about time for paint. I know some of you have some great paint jobs and I would love to see them and gain some inspiration for what I'm going to try to pull off. So post them up, let's see what you've got! anim-cheers1

My buddy did mine in his garage with a home made flow booth. I wanted the black and this was left over from a Cadillac CTS-V he had just done. He did a decent job - and the price was VERY right. I was actually amazed (and very pleased) with how it turned out. I've bought him more than a few beers since.

This machine was amazingly clean and has been detailed since these photos. The motor and frame were lovingly cared for and polished up nicely.

Basic black.

The mudguards, side panels and dummy tank were professionally done, the pin stripes by hand!

The gold bits were done by me with a brush, and look better in the photo than close up, but I'm happy with the result.

Put on a new Motad exhaust since the pics were taken.

Whoa! Chewy, I'd forgotten how nicely that 1100 turned out. Well done! Good things come to those who wait.

Moto nut, I'm very keen on rattle can jobs, I think they are underestimated a bit, did you use a rattle can clear coat on your Rustoleum metallic charcoal? It looks like you did, if so was it an Eastman's product?

Gents;
I can saw, fabricate, mill, thread and build but I cannot do body and paint to save my life. Occasionally I can get some flat or semi gloss black to stick without any visual flaws but such events are rare.

Hey 230 rocket, no cleat coat, I've done clear coats over rattle paints but think they leave too much orange peel and tend to dull in a short time if you leave your bike outside a lot, and if you happen to get a scratch you're in for a lot of work to fix, for any paint work pre prep and a good work environment is every thing and know when to stop and walk away

Moto nut, good advice, especially the ''know when to walk away'' part! How many times have we gone for one last pass with the can and the stupid nozzle splutters big drips all over what would've been a perfect job! Ha, ha...

cheers

Dupli Color Cherry red rattle can, clear coat Spray max 2k rattle can, wet sanded with 2000 grit and then buffed out.

You can do great paint jobs with rattle cans, but it isn't fuel or chemical proof with out the two part clear coat.
