PigOut in Mulberry Grove, 10-12 May 2013

#1

Post by Roady »

Pretty Wife Katy and I are making plans to host a meet'n'greet here at Laughing Horse Acres in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. It'll be held May 10, 11 and 12, 2013. Your spouse, kids and friends are welcome, just let us know who's coming.

First and foremost, this will be an all-pork and brew weekend. There will probably be other things to eat and drink but other than that we haven't made many other plans.

Mulberry Grove, IL is about an hour East of St. Louis. Our place is 3.4 miles South of exit 52 off of I-70. We have 5 acres, mostly pasture, but there's about an acre of woods set aside for camping and you'll be welcome in the house for a shower, toilet, NGW forum check or just lounging around. And don't worry, there's lots of enclosed parking in the shop for 'Wings.

For overnight accommodations, there is a "civilized" camping spot between our place and the freeway if you'd prefer that over our rustic park or the concrete floor in the shop/stable. Motels are about 10 miles away in either Greenville or Vandalia. They range from nice to flophouse and I'll be checking with them to get rates (see this post) for those that are interested.

Please let us know if you will be coming so we can flesh out the plan.

The Evolving Plan

Friday, 10 May
 • Meet 'n' Greet thru the afternoon
 • Pulled Pork BBQ sammiches for dinner
Saturday, 11 May
 • Meet up for breakfast at the Powhatan in Pocahontas (they have pork)
 • Back to the ranch, pony rides for the kids ;)
 • Hotdogs and leftovers for lunch
 • Public judging and voting for the meet's "Best Bike"
 • Much talk about bikes and various other motorhead stuff
 • St. Louis style grilled pork steaks and Steve's famous Southwest style pork ribs for dinner
 • Awards ceremony
Sunday, 12 May
 • Pancakes, eggs, taters and pig parts for breakfast
 • Leftovers and pork sammiches for the road

@Ken, this will probably replace the breakfast run and hopefully most of the StL gang will be here.

BTW ... this is my wife's horse, Mac.

Barring any unforseen circumstances, I'll be riding up for a visit that Saturday. It would be nice to meet some of the other fellows from here who don't live in this area. I'll start praying now for nice weather!

My grandfather will be turning over in his grave knowing about all that pork I’ll be eating that week-end, he’s Jewish! But what the heck, this is 2012 and my father was not Jewish so I guess I can eat some pork half the time.
and I also plan on being there.

Man I wish I could take more time off work to attend this. My good buddy is getting married in Minnesota on May 18. Which also happens to be my birthday. That would be some ride from here to there! And a mighty fine month to do it too!!

Applied this event before the board last night ( I already have a pass anim-cheers1 ) but I wanted to see if the wife would be up for the event. Granddaughter is horse crazy, so might be a good fit. Adds a chase car too, so RAT and I could ride without carring anything.

Yes, Ken .... we do plan on serving some pork. After all, this is the Midwest.

And on the snack table we'll be sure to have some other goodies.

Looking forward to having you out, Al.
