Re: Darn Goldwings.....
Looks like a good place to start. I just started on another project (it just looks like Trash II ) and I think the only thing salvageable will be the frame and hopefully the engine, but it has a title!
Bikes at present:
83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process

Re: Darn Goldwings.....
Well it's been a while. Watch this Youtube video...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5z-38tVq ... e=youtu.be
The Holley project begins! What you see is a 1958 Rambler 250 c.i. V8 Holley carburetor on a exhaust pipe and 1/4" steel homemade intake.(Bobber style!)
It's the same as a 1957 Thunderbird carb only cheaper on ebay. It only flows about 390 cfm. The venturi's size is 1 1/16" and the throttle plates are 1 7/16". This is the same size as the newer 390 cfm's sold by Holley, except that this is a 4150 series vs 4160 series. The difference is the 4150 series carbs have a metering block in both the primary side and the secondary side whereas the 4160 use a metering plate in the secondary side which makes jet changing more difficult because you have to change the whole plate as opposed to just changing jets like the primary side. I also added the cathedral float bowls found on larger Holleys, just to give it that BIG look. Please pardon the plumbing, it's only mock up for tuning.
A little mock up for centering..
Float bowl difference....
This is an intake heater- carb icing was a bit of a problem. I closed the bypass passage between the thermostat housing and the waterpump inlet. Then I tapped into both housings with a 5/16" barb. I ran a hose from the thermostat housing to the top of the copper plumbing, then returned it to the inlet of the waterpump. The video doesn't show this very well. It still runs poorly until it warms up thoroughly, but its winter here and pretty cold!
Here's the whole thing on the bench.
Gotta love that Cal Custom scoop!!
More later..........

WOW, now that is a tunnel ram.
Will you be able to open the shelter to fuel up? In the pic it looks awfully close.

Re: Darn Goldwings.....
Hey Robin, Yeah the shelter door just clears the rear float bowl. Hopefully I can modify the front lid to cover the exposed area around the plenum.
Cheers...
