Oh-No!!!! only three shots left to upload. :( :( :(

Back to work in the morning, so my girls will have to stay in the dark workshop until my return next Monday night late.

I check out this forum daily two or three times and read all the other posts. I should answer more of them as I enjoy getting an answer too.

Stay happy and healthy, Peter.

This is how she is sitting now and for the next week too. Just to drill the holes to join the body to the chassis, but that's next break. All the best for now :-)

I have to say that I am impressed with that Lathe with the milling cutter.
All the more impressive that you can use it, and use it to make really great stuff. action1
I am mega impressed with your workshop too, I can see that you are a true craftsman
which is something that is getting rarer all the time.
Keep up the great work, and take care of yourself.

Beautiful work Pedro, and for a bloke who reckons he can't weld, you're doing a good job or fooling me! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Also, when you say the "big" lathe, is the second arrow pointing to a 12"-14" four jaw chuck?

Craftsmen are a dying breed, soon they will be a distant memory.

My welding is certainly improving, I used to have one of them old transformer type welders and it was not very good, I now have an inverter type, small and light, the ark is real nice and steady.

I think the three major inventions that are the greates to mankind are "Cable Ties" (zip ties), "Vice Grips" and "Milk Crates", they can all be used for so many purposes.

Correct, that is a 10" (250mm) 4 jaw indipendant chuck which fits my big lathe, it also has a 8" (200mm) 3 jaw self centering chuck as well. I call it my big lathe as there is no makers name on it, just the sellers shop name.

Typewriters are plenty on hand and reasonably heavy, so up they went for some ballast.

Next break I am hoping to finish the sidecar fitting by drilling holes and attaching the body to the chassis. The base of the sidecar must have been re-fitted a few times as it looks like swiss cheese with all the holes drilled in it. I dare say I will be adding more, but i will also be patching up the holes that I dont use. A quick spray-pack of black paint over all the new brackets and that will be it. The body will get a paint job one day along with the fairing and dummy tank and sidecovers, but that is a long way off, i need to ride her around for a while to get any bugs out of my designs.

I will now start focusing on rebuilding the powerhouse that will drive her down the highway. I might get the frame powder coated as there will not be any more changes to that. She will also get a complet re-wiring, I might use black wire throughout and use them little letters and numerals on the ends that sparkies use to identify the wiring.

All the best to all, Peter.

I like the sound of everything but the re-wiring Pedro. I just totally re-wired a CB750 that a previous owner had re-wired with all purple wires, he'd cut off all the oem connectors and used crimp on automotive connectors and insulation tape, half of which had fallen off, so not only did I install a brand spanking new wiring loom, but I had to solder on new wires with OEM connectors to the alternator, both handlebar switches, head and tail lights, indicators, idiot lights etc. I think you can buy repro wiring looms for old GL's too? Cheers, Terry.

Gooday all!

back again after a fun filled week at work, and now time to play with the old girls.

Did not get much done yesterday, well not much to show for it anyway. Just streamlined the front lower bracket to look nicer than welded chunks of steel.

Then I stripped her right down again and dismantled the motors. One is full of all the worn out and broken/damaged parts (good practice piece for the grandson) and the other is a motor that can be rebuilt one day.
I wanted the bearing shells and pistons from one of them and I noticed (after I put it together last time ) that the engine that I wanted to keep for a future rebuild has cracks all over the casings possibly from a prang? so I swapped them around (pity as the bores were nice).

I hope to get both engines back together today.

Catch you all tomorrow again.
Best regards, Peter.

Good morning all! ..... probably goodnight to most of you?

Wandered about aimlessly yesterday and just did a few things that came up in my mind at the time.

I get sick of washers dropping out and then holding them in position when re assembling, so I made a couple of press in bushings for the front lower bracket, then welded the spacer onto the lower rear bracket.

My home made alternator wheel holder.

She is a bit rough, no streamlining, but does the job holding things so you can undo/tighten the bolts on the shafts without them turning. Although now you have to hang on to the engine as it rolls about the workbench when you find a tight nut.

End of the day, a few Fizzies have been consumed. dancr

I put together #4 engine with all the bad, worn out and broken parts. (good practice engine for grandson Bryan to learn on)

This is my first trolley with the lifting beam that I knocked up a few weeks back. I made it to lift the engine and keep it reasonably level during the process. But then I found that if you remove the heads the centre of gravity shifts, and so forth.

 I will drill a series of holes close together so they overlap then slot out the bottom teeth so you can then slide the "D" shackle to the desired point (like they use on pallet lifting forks) to keep the centre of gravity close to the centre.

Desaster!!! I cranked the "Y" wheel the wrong way and cut out the wrong side compromising the strength of the lifting beam. another piece of steel into the scrap bin.............Too many Fizzies party2

That's it for todays report folks. See what today brings? I know I have to go to my sisters place to assemble a flat-pack she bought from Ikea later today. Next report tomorrow morning my time. :)
