Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
Thanks Guys,
Got the water works on the other day and that was it! Yesterday I put all the Randakk's goodies in the carbies and fitted them, just need to polish the carb tops, rocker covers, belt covers and put the timing belts on.
I hope today is fruitful and I can get the engine in the frame
Regards to All, Peter.

Looking good as always. But do get out and ride that 1500 some, all work (even when it is fun work) and no play makes one dull.
Bikes at present:
83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
I am very DULL!, the 15 is just sitting there and begging me to take her out, the weather is lovely.
But I am so busy working on my 1000, fixing typewriter's, broken toys, recovering balls and toys from the roof, playing Taxi driver etc as it is school holidays and we have our grandson
I have promised myself to take her out for a decent ride today.
I put the dull rocker covers on for dust and impact protection, removed the workshop bench wheelie cradle and sat the engine on the end of the bench, hoisted the bike up and slid her on.
Finger tightened up all the engine mounting bolts, hoisted her up in the air and torqued them all up.
Then I realised that I forgot to put the driveshaft boot and the kick start on so I had to remove the swingarm and fit them.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
Today is my last day of freedom, as it is back to work tomorrow, but I intend on going for a 15 ride and maybe getting the brakes all sorted out for both the #1 & #2 projects ??
All the best to Everyone,
Regards, Peter.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
I gotta build myself a beam to lift off, that looks so handy to put the work where you want it, or where your back, or your knees, or your hips wants it. My jack is giving me a fight every time with the hydraulics. While I'm typing this, I realize I have one. Just need some kind of hoist. Electric winch would be nice. See ya, going to Craigslist.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
Yep, gotta say, that hoist must be very nice for projects. I have a smaller chainfall in the garage that I used for snowmobile work, and have used it some on little engines.
I must say, I will put a beam in the new place to do much as you are doing now. Great job on everything!

Bravo Peter !
I must say, you have a way of making the biggest jobs just seem like a 20 minute diversion
Those rims and brake discs are looking fantastic

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to All,
and thanks for the great comments. I am always thinking to myself that on the assembly plant Honda would have had a system where things took only minutes to attach, thus I will try to simulate these techniques myself. it is just the order in which things are assembled, do it in a different order and the nightmares start.
Did not achieve much on Sunday, could not get the snap ring back on the drive shaft/engine coupling as it was smushed with Moly 60 and dark, so I rolled the welding bench out into the open and used sunlight to see what I was doing.
Then I mounted the 15 and went for a ride. my slow moving techniques need a lot more practice
All the best to Everyone and see you next week.
Regards, Peter.

Pete,
Not only are you a Master Machinist, and a Master Mechanic, you are also a Master Photographer. I love the drill pattern you did on the disks.
Cheers

Very nice work. I think I now need a gantry on my patio.
If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.
