76 K1 GL1000 Resurrected.
Just over a year ago I was given a 65K 76 UK K1 GL1000 that had been sitting in a shed for 6 years (last ridden and run in 06) by a neighbour (a retired theatre actor). He knew I liked bikes (I had 2) and had thought about restoring one for a project - although I've never restored anything before. So, literally, in at the deep end for me. He had owned the bike from new so at least knew the history!
I collected her in Nov 11 and these pictures are of her in my shed prior to any work. She was tired but completed; although with an aftermarket fairing and hacked about wiring. These pictures show her in a better light than she actually was. There was a fair amount of rust and decay.
As I worked on her in my subterranean lair (and also because of the letters from her licence plate) she become 'Trog'. As part of the restoration I took many photos and recorded most of my work. Too much to post on this board with it's one at a time upload - so the story is on my website at:

And this is Trog as of today. The only things I have to attach are mirrors; Honda logos on the false tank side panels and the licence plate.
Of course she isn't finished - My next mod is chrome headers and Harley sportster exhausts but after a year of fettling I'm going to ride and enjoy for a while first!
I haven't made a show bike but one I can ride and enjoy! She is lightly and I hope tastefully modified...........but definitely still a Naked Goldwing!

That looks nicely done. Is that a Superbrace?
I think the exhaust you have on it looks fine, but I can understand wanting to fit a bit of chrome too....are you going to use the MAC double-walled headers?
The paint looks suspiciously the same colour as mine on the solo.....is it Peugeot "Rouge Lucifer"?
I wonder what make of fairing that was? Did it have 2 optics?

And yes it has a Superbrace plus Randakks master cylinder (stainless braided pipes), electric fuel pump and oil filter mod. Plus Dyna ignition and coils.
I like the exhaust as is, especially the cone shape of the tailpipes, but I've seen some tasty pictures of bikes with smaller Harley silencers; and I like the size reduction! Plus the one on the bike had a lot of rust around the crosspipe - dealt with and ok for now but will need replacing eventually. The chromed headers that I will use are some I found on eBay that someone had made up for his own project but didn't get round to using - a steal.
The colour is actually Honda's Antares Red - the original spec - but the chap who resprayed the panels found that it got darker the more coats he laid down plus it changes its tint depending what angle you look at it from. Brilliant!

BEAUTIFUL!! Needs a shot of chrome but not too much. Paint sure looks different than stock

Very nice, and I think it looks good the way it sits. The black on the engine flows very well into the exhausts. Also, the paint looks great without any logos. Love those Corbin seats.

Put the registration plate on. Put the hinges on the side panels. Put the Honda Logos on the side panels. Warmed her up and took her for a 30 mile test ride. It's only +1c - so just a little nippy with lots of grease on the road. TTL no snow. Dropped by the my local MOT testing station (UK equivalent of the MVPI) to book a test. Kindly tester chap says 'I can do her now'. I think 'she went well. Everything works. Let's do it'! Half way through the test the tester says 'what are those wires hanging down at the right front of the frame'? Doh! I'd forgot to put the horn on!
Short time later having proved I had a horn and that it works (feebly) I have a MOT certificate. Insurance has been bought and only road tax to be gained. Let's see if the UK government Vehicle tax organisation know what a GL1000 is?
