Yea, I collect nice looking parts to put on mine, and think to myself that I just need to put it together now, and see what's left to finish.

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '75
finally received my pipes from my fabricator. I must admit, he did an EXCELLENT job. He sent me a sound clip and they sound VERY nice!!
Also scored a set of VERY good condition CB900 front calipers off e-bay for a steal ($50!!), so hopefully I can get those mounted up without any issues. I'll probably use the fork lowers from the '79 I have sitting around since I believe the bolt right up to those.
Nothing much else to talk about though, too many other projects taking precedence!!

Doesn't look like the 82 CB900C calipers are going to be much of a bolt on. I'll have to take some more careful measurements, but from a quick eyeball, the bolt spacing is not right :-\ Looks like the F model is the one to have??
Any thoughts for bolt on dual piston calipers?

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '75
scored some NOS swingarm pivot collars! When I pulled the originals, they actually appeared to be in great shape, but always nice to have new. I'm having the material comp and hardness checked so I can create a drawing for Old Fogey. Hopefully it will help others if they ever need to manufacture a new set. Machining them isn't too much of an issue (although you do need a shop that can properly grind), it's heat treating it that will drive the cost up, especially on a small batch basis.
Cleaned out the final drive. previous owner loved his grease! let it soak in my heated ultrasonic parts washer for awhile and got almost all the old grease and grime off. A quick hand polish will make it look very fresh!
Rebuild the rear wheel too. New all balls bearings and seals, cleaned out all the old grease and grime. Just need to try to clean a little more "age" off the spokes and get a new tire and we'll be good to go!
Disassembled the swingarm, and pulled the driveshaft. Still looks new with no signs of wear. phew! I think I will need another grease seal between the arm and final drive though. Just need to touch up the paint and order the KZ style bearings from Wingovations.
hopefully going to get the front wheel rebuilt soon, along with the front forks. once those are buttoned up, I'll pull the engine for a thorough cleanup, as many new seals as i can get, and all the appropriate work there. also get the koni shocks rebuilt, do the carbs, check all the electrical, etc. etc. trying to touch up the frame wherever I go too.
it's funny that out of the 6 bikes i own, this one is the closest to running...

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '75
I'd like to know if anyone is interested in simply taking both the '75 and '79 off my hands. The '79 is (mostly) complete, and the '75 is almost all there minus the front forks. The '75 has a clean TX title, and I can certainly investigate the history of the title on the '79, as the PO told me that he simply lost it.
Regardless, the '79 is a great parts bike and the '75 would make for a fine rebuild if someone had the time. I was thinking $500. Bring your trailer, and I'll help you load! I'll even throw in the motorcycle jack that the '75 is attached to!! I also have a shop crane, so I can pick up the '75 and help load. Please PM me for questions.
Thanks!!!

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '76 (need to sell the '75 and '79!!)
Well, not too much going on with this project. I've mostly finished rebuilding the final drive, rear wheel and swingarm, just need to re-install when the time is right. i did "find" some racetech emulators for the front end (salvaged from my CB750 project), so it should handle pretty well once it's back up and going. I'll worry about the CB when it gets its time in the spotlight. Also had my rotors drilled and thinned (to 5mm) and I finally finished rebuilding the IKON's (man was that fun to do after losing my disassembly pictures!!)
I did get around to building the GL a dedicated rebuild stand. Loading the bike up with one person was a bit tricky, but it JUST worked!!
Most of my garage time is now being spent on my '01 spirit 750, as it is the closest to being ridable again. Hopefully i can get back on the road with this bike so i'll have more time to devote to the GL and XS.

Where/how did you get the rotors drilled? I like the pattern, and am looking for a way to "busy up" the look of the rotor area on my own build.

I had a friend of mine do those. He is outside of Portland. He came up with the pattern. I also had the rotors ground down to 5mm thick to fit inside some upgraded calipers I'm going to attempt to fit up. They are considerably lighter than stock, so hopefully they work well!

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '76 (need to sell the '75 and '79!!)
so absolutely no news other than losing my job last week for literally no known reason. but in efforts to clear out some garage space and get a little extra cash to keep the lights on, I need to part out the '75 and '79 and get rid of it all.
if you need any parts, please let me know here: http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=62602 thanks!!

Re: 3 GL1000's to make one '76 (need to sell the '75 and '79!!)
So I was hoping for some feedback here from everyone.
As you know, I'll be taking the '75 and '79 to the motorcycle junkyard since I've not the space, time or money to do anything with them. Before taking them however, I'll be pulling some "key" parts off to keep in storage for resale or future use as spares. This is what I'm thinking of, but I'd like some opinions from others.
