I've been eyeing this 'assortment of parts' for a while now, seeing as the weather hasn't been very cooperative for working on the other bikes outside. I updated my 'to-do' list, and it really doesn't seem too bad (I know, famous last words, lol).

The list:
Sort through the tubs of parts and select the 'best' from both bikes.
Finish prep and paint the frame.
Replace steering head bearings.
Prep and paint engine.
Rebuild carbs.
Rebuild front forks.
Rebuild brake calipers.
Rebuild brake master cylinders.
Replace wheel bearings.
Drill the brake rotors.
Clean and seal fuel tank.
Go through the wiring harness connections.

Of course, there's the budget to look after. I can get along fairly well before digging too deep into the stash. Going through the brakes is always expensive, especially since I like them to work! If I choose to replace the caliper pistons along with the seals, and go with SS lines, I'll have $500.00+ in the brake system alone... sheesh!

Why is it that every time I look at buying a Randakk's carb kit they are out of stock?!?

Actually, Randall Washington has little to do with the store (other than touting it) these days. That parts company is owned by a much bigger group that operates several sites including Z1 Enterprises (the main one, I think), Dime City Cycles, and Mike's XS. Still, this approaches the annual Randakk outage when he went on vacation, so it carries on the tradition. There are a lot of different parts in the kit from different suppliers, any of which can hold up a kit in these days of just-in-time.

The frame got an experimental rust/ etching treatment that seems to work quite well. I applied the metal prep with a well used red scotch pad which helped take off a lot of the surface rust. The heavier rust was 'converted', just like the much pricier rust converter products.
I left the metal prep sit and stew for about 15 minutes, then gave the frame a thorough hose down, followed by a mist of 50/50 prep and water to prevent flash rust.
Next up is primer and paint!

The frame after two coats of primer and one coat of paint. I had to thin the primer to minimize the brush strokes. It kind of worked, lol. The black laid down pretty good, except where I brushed it out too much or overlapped partially dry spots.
I'm going to let it cure for a couple of weeks, scuff it down, and give it a final coat. Now I'm looking at the engine and thinking I should paint that as well... :IDTS: :IDTS: :IDTS:
