Re: Front wheel bearing replacement - '83 GL1100
Oops, I just noticed a difference, I cut a slot in the end of the bolt to drive a screwdriver or cold chisel into to expand, but the principle would be the same.

Mine has a slot, just not very visible in the pic, I guess...

Re: Front wheel bearing replacement - '83 GL1100
I didn't do it when I changed the bearings in my 76 because I thought of it after..but
Next time I'm going to cut a slot on one end of the spacer wide enough to get a punch in so I can get a good purchase on the bearing.
The slot won't need to be to deep or wide as I'm going to fabricate a punch specifically for this.

Re: Front wheel bearing replacement - '83 GL1100
I've been thinking about this. I wouldn't use a bolt to grab the inside of the spacer or cut a slot in the spacer or anything else that would damage the plating on the spacer. I've had to drive out too many axles from rusty spacers...

good point. I will be sure to rust proof the spacer..and I apply a good coat of grease to the entire axle before I put it back.Sidecar Bob wrote:I've been thinking about this.
