If its engine oil, like I said before, it has to be that seal. Only way engine oil can get into the swing arm. Fix it right....replace the seal.

how does this seal allow it to leak at the swingarm. isn't this seal behind the clutch?
I have done so much with so little for so long, I think I could do anything with nothing at all, in no time flat. My best friend Buddy (my service dog) loves to ride as much as I do.!!! I would hope everyone would use a product called (Ride On) sealant & Balancer, in their tires, because it has saved my life.

Probably loosen swingarm and allow it to move back enough to remove and replace. I use a ratchet strap from the upper crossframe brace to the swingarm by the tire to keep the swingarm from falling and assist rolling it back in place. My Frankenstein bike had enough slack in wires and brake lines to allow this.
Is this seal behind the clutch??

There is a seal in the rear cover where the output shaft is. (The shaft the driveshaft is mated with)

I think it can be replaced without pulling the rear cover. Oil could be coming out there and following the angle of the shaft back to the final drive. I would expect there to be oil in the rubber boot and probably the back of the motor as well.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

+1 with Eric. Oil should be obvious in the boot, if that is the seal that's leaking. It is removed from the outside of the back cover. IIRC, it has a flange and can be pried out.

That is where I get lost . There is no oil at the boot or the back of the engine. I don't seem to be losing engine oil or final drive fluid. there is no oil but at the shocks, more now on the left side. has me at a standstill \, as to where the oil is coming from. the oil has a red tint to it . Surely the shocks don't have oil in them???????

Jolly, I think you hit on the problem, many shocks are oil filled. Have a close look at them.

Some use red transmission fluid.

Yes, the air shocks have oil in them, and it is often red (ATF is the recommended replacement). It is fairly easy to replace the seals, easier than getting to the shocks, lol.

that is where its coming from. But find it strange one leaks red and the other clear. And how does both go bad at the same time. the bike has been setting for a very long time 7 years. BUT IT STILL SEEMS STRANGE. It had a 17 year old front tire and a 18 year old rear tire. I would think it would be easier to change the shocks tham removing the swingarm or engine . LOL :IDTS:

I let the air presser out of the rear shocks. Will check tomorrow if the leak has slowed or stopped. I do thank you for your input to this problem. I do have other shocks. I hope that will end this oil leak. I will let you know, Thanks JOLLY

Ya it's the lesser of the three weevils. Maybe the seals went bad from sitting or just worn out???
The 1200 shocks have 9-10 oz of fluid. Check shop talk link for rebuilding:

It is the shock. So glad it's not seals, but I guess the shock seal is out. I have another one I can use.
