Damaged '79 GL1000 Carbs

#1

Post by PB98 »

I have a set of carbs I've been rebuilding and the tubes in the float bowl that hold the jets in one of the carbs is damaged. I'm wondering if I should replace the carb body with an ebay unit or if this one should be serviceable. The tubes go over the jet orings, so I'm guessing it'll be fine but I want to get a second opinion.

As long as the O rings seal against the inside of the tubes you should be good to go.

Yep, pretty common unfortunately. ^^^ What he said.

Operable word is "seal". If they do, you should be Ok. But, the little black plug has to seal, also.

I’m not sure I’d spend any time or effort on that carb, there’s no way that the black rubber plug would seal there, maybe if you ran a mill over the top to clean things up if the inside is fairly clean. I’d probably just get another same number carb, lot less trouble, just make sure you get the same number carb. My .02
