Nekked , with a windshield

That is sure a far cry from a FJR, but I am glad you prefer a real Man's motorcycle now..

I Really , Really liked the FJR1300 It carried all I needed and still would run 155 mph.. only tested that once.. Issues came up like Divorce and accident, Insurance Co.. that caused me to have to get rid of Her..

I always wondered why the new GL's don't have this feature but the ST's do... it seems like the "top of the line" flagship model should have all the bells and whatnots.

A REAL MAN'S .....

I guess real men ride what they can afford instead of financing their future away for something with a lot of beauty, speed, handling, comfort, and of course new technology. Works that way with women too.

Some people buy theirs with cash up front.

Some go for the attractive finance deal, but there's usually a big balloon payment later.

Others lease instead of buying, especially if they use theirs at work or just like getting a new one every one or two years.

Works that way with motorcycles, too.

Windscreen

Nicely done! You have my support.

Glad to hear it has its time and place ie. ideally not summer or short distances.

I too have decided that I want a windscreen for select rides and times of year. Any suggestions out there on what I should be buying and from whom given that I won't be building my own?
Best regards,

I hope I'm not going to get kicked out of the club for this.
Fear not... I too thought wow, naked is great! I bought an open face helmet and began riding. I had to keep stopping to pick up my moustache... in my province, winds run 60k (40mph) regularly and often go to 100k (60mph). I took my open-faced helmet back, got a full-face and installed a nearly invisible, tiny windshield to break the hurricane force winds I drive in to regularly. Now I drive comfortably and still have my share of bugs on my jacket.

A little mad at myself for violating, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Of course there was a tiny crack starting at the top of the shield. And I wanted to change the braces from their handlebar attachment to the fork ear bolts, as suggested by Silvertramp. Much easier on/off since I wouldn't have to un-bend them to get them off the bars.

So, while it was off I just figured I'd trim a "skosh" off the top and smooth it up a bit. Been reading that windshield trimming thread and thought ... well, I've done that, it's easy. Yeah.

Marked it and started cutting with the sabresaw, about 2/3 of the way across and "CRACKKKK", a 3 inch split. So, marked it lower and cut it again. Success. Sand it down. And I notice a little crack in about the same area as the first one. Well, it's little, it stays. Adds character. Chicks dig scars.

Here are the new mounts. Right side.

And the left one.

New shape from the front.

Old shape. This is more vertical than the above.

I took it out for a little ride. The new shield shape seems to work as good, maybe a bit better than the old one. Less helmet buffeting anyway.

I'm new to owning a naked wing [84 1200]. The previous owner really wanted her nakedd, no gauges, no turn signals ETC: I have really learned a lot here in 3 days !
I too also want to fit a windshield, as our speed limit is posted at 75 and we touch 113 a time or two [or 3] each summer in Phoenix and, well ya need some protection :) Tell me again what windshield you started with.
Or maybe just the sizes of it [height/width].
Also if you wave a flame over your cut and sanded edges of your windshield you can turn the edge clear. I've worked with a fair amount of plexiglass when I was with maintenance at International Paper. [Boat windshields]. I used an acetylene torch, but I'm sure your home propane torch will do fine. [You seem to have enough pieces to practice on. :-D .
Thanx,
James

I started with the windshield from the Winjammer III fairing that I trashed.

Thanks for the flame tip, I'll give it a go.

But I'll be sure to have a fire extinguisher handy ... you never know with me.

I bet you already know this, but if you drill a tiny hole at the end of the crack it will stop 'growing'.
