ran429's Makeover to his 1978 GL1000
Did quite a bit of clean up on the old bike today. That rust is a pain to get rid of.

----------------------------------------------------------
Put the new plugs in it today as well, Now to seafoam the tank & fuel system.
Found a Hole in the radiator so I will be repairing this soon too. along with the overflow hose to the resevoir bottle .http://community.webshots.com/photo/265 ... 0654wLsEeP
Shined up the Aluminum on the motor and chrome quite a bit today too. Man there is a lot of parts to one of these bikes. Glad most of mine are good. Side covers are broken so replacing them as soon as I can find a couple good ones (affordably) Otherwise I will be doing some fiberglass work.
I couldnt stand the rusted parts I was seeing so tearing it apart was all I could do.
It was fun ! Didnt have anything else to do.
Randy.

But the bike was running on all that old gas that was still in the tank. Its been drained and new fuel added since then. Looked and sounded like a TwoStroke for awhile.

Great, I think sand blasting is the best way to get rid of rust and old paint.ran429 wrote:No, I used a dremmel and a drill with wire wheels and then more sanding.Try wrote:

Fairing will be a gonner soon. I want a Sporty Cafe style if I keep one on there. But it HAS TO BE SMALL.
I dont have a headlight bucket so I need to keep this on for awhile longer.
Seafoming the fuel system right now, Should I let it run for quite awhile or let it sit?

No, Actually $150, But he also had a manual for it that he paid $30 for so I got that too. Price for the book was a little steep, But I would have spent more in gas going to get one.Try wrote:ran429 wrote: Just to show that my $180 was well spent.
You bought it for $180?
