Here's a Do-It-Yourself carb synchronizer that really works

I just finished some carb work today and synched the carbs with this device (manometer) I've used for years. It is from a Beemer Airhead site and has been around for a long time. If you might be interested, check this out. It finds a perfect balance between two carbs. At the bottom of the article there is a link to a drawing

If you like the idea and want to try it out, you have to make adapters for the Goldwing carbs. Here's what I did: First locate two 4mm screws and drill a sixteenth inch hole through the length of them, cut off the heads and push them into a 4 inch length of the same tubing used for the manometer. Then thread on a 4mm nut followed by a small o-ring. In the other end of the short tube, insert a sleeve which will connect the adapter to the manometer tubing. PM for more info.

By the way, don't let the "two carbs" thing turn you off. to balance four goldwing carbs, you first balance the left bank, then the right bank, then the rear carbs on each bank to get a balance of all four carbs.

Check your work after you are done.

I didn't read through the instructions, what would be the problem of doing a 4 part system instead of the two. I guess you could even make up two if you wanted.

You could do that but I find the "Two at a time" balancing to be very effective. Since you are comparing carb to carb rather than meter to meter, you are a LOT more accurate I think.

This sounds like my kind of project!

The hose they're talking about uses plastic barb fittings. Just find the size that the barb will "screw" into the fitting on the side of the intake. Use reducers if you want bigger hoses to make it easier to see. Put inline fittings on carbs 1 and 2 and "T" fittings on carbs 3 and 4 then make 3 "gauges".

The levels don't have to match they just have to be level to themselves.

1 = 3 and 2 = 4 and 3 = 4 so all are balanced. Does that figure right?

I may be doing this tomorrow.
