VIN PLate
Let me pick the brains of those who have done this. I had my frame sandblasted. They took the vin plate off. what is the best way to relace the vin plate. or put it back on.

Re: VIN PLate
Was it rivetted on? Surely you can re-use the original rivet holes?

Re: VIN PLate
Yes mine was riveted but they forgot to remove it prior to blasting!! I threw it away afterwards. The serial number is stamped into the neck on the other side so it should not be an issue but yes rivets and I think there is an adhesive on the back as well??

Re: VIN PLate
Check out the 1100 build thread link in my signature. At the end of the first page in the thread is a very successful method for reapplying the plate. Use a very short pop rivet that barely extends past the hole in the head space and use contact cement.

Re: VIN PLate
Ok thanks for the advise. i will check when i get home. did not see holes before painting it. I think i have to sand the other side down because sprayed the paint a little thick and cannot see the vin.

Re: VIN PLate
Another option.
Looks very similar to the '75 CB750 I did. On the 750, the plate was reattached by first using very thin double stick tape (Walmart) and brass rivets. I used 3/32 x 3/16 rivets. Squeezed them just after the head with a set of electrical pliers. This widened them so they fit tight in the hole. Bought them through Grainger (Item # 1HBU7). They come 100/pack, so I have plenty left if you'd like some. PM me if you're interested.

Re: VIN PLate
Don't feel too bad. When I painted my frame I put masking plate over the vin plate, and not knowing its significance, I forgot about it. 6 or so years later the tape started peeling off and it was a "well looky here, what's that?" moment for me.WingForChrist wrote:Ok thanks for the advise. i will check when i get home. did not see holes before painting it.
