Brake Caliper Rebuild Kits

#1

Post by djoyner »

Can anyone recommend a reputable vendor for front and rear brake caliper rebuild kits (seals, dustcaps) for a '78 GL1000?

My rear brakes stick sometimes, so I figured a may as well rebuild them all at the same time.

Thanks.

For a sticking rear make sure to check the pedal. The sleeve of the pedal gets rust between it and the frame and it likes to bind up. Pretty easy job to remove and clean up and lube up on a 1000.

Also the tiny pressure relief hole in the master being plugged up, a common problem, can cause your symptoms. The next time it freezes up open the bleeder a smidgen to relieve the pressure in the caliper and see if that frees your brake. If it does then the problem is in the master.

Thats a good possibility. But degraded brake lines can also be the cause.

Thanks Whiskerfish, the pedal is not sticking, but thanks for the tip.

Thanks Sagebrush, when I crack the bleeder valve, the brakes still won't release immediately.

Thanks to tips and pictures on this forum i was able to clean that spooge hole. I never would have seen it just looking down the bore, so make sure you locate it, it's hard to see.

Still get the piston seal from the dealer here. You might have to outsource the dust boot. I don't think it is still available at the dealer.
