Electric fuel pump

#1

Post by wingrider »

Hey all,

I am still building up my 77 project...frame should almost be done at the powder coater, but that is a different story.

I am running a dual weber setup, and it will have a touch of nitrous with it. I recently went to purchase a fuel pump from Randakk, only to find that they have been discontinued due to some factors that Randakk told me about.

This now leaves me looking for a substitute pump over the OEM, as I am not certain the stock one will have enough flow when the go fast button is hit....not to mention the amount of cranking to fill the carbs first run.

Does anyone have any suggestions to a good pump that will work well, or am I wrong, and the stock one will work fine?

Thanks for any help! :)

Just buy the pump yourself.

https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ ... RecID=8440

It is a facet pump, pn 40105.

You will have to either fabricate a bracket for it, or place it somewhere else. That was what you were really paying for with his kit. The fabricated mounts, instructions etc.

Do it yourself.

Randall used a Facet cube pump (40171). I didn't use his mount and opted to mount it inboard on the cross-brace. A homemade cover and gasket covers the hole where the stock pump mounted.
The Webers need 3psi and the one Pierce mentions is 4.5psi so I would go with the 40171.

If you are going to run wet nitrous will you require a high pressure pump as well?

Thanks for the replies to far!

The system has not been chosen yet, but it will be a wet system. Unclear yet if I will need a high pressure pump.

Others have run pumps from mid 80's Honda carbureted, gl1200, most of the vf bikes.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Wingrider I am in the same boat myself, install new webers over the winter and a little to late for the recomended model from Randall. I am still about three weeks away from running mine, but for what it is worth I decided to get the one from cbperformance model 3193 fuel pump 3 1/2 lbs. I looked at several, and the reason that I picked this one, they recomended it off course but fom what I could tell this style is quieter. Like I said I still have about 3 weeks before startup so I am wondering if my decision will cause me grief.

You will have to run a wet system. Dry is for fuel injection. As long as you buy a complete kit the hight pressure fuel pump will come with it. You should "T" in to the fuel line right off of the fuel petcock. ( I thought we talked about all of this already?) ;)

Thanks again everyone for the responses. I believe I have found a pump.

Robin, we talked a lot about the general system, (I recently poured over every message to recall everything) but never really touched on the pump....the closest we got was when you said if I got the complete kit, everything would be in it that I would need. :-D

Fair warning, the Facet pumps are really loud. I have one on my MGB-GT, probably the same one actually, since my twin SU's only need about 2.5lbs of pressure. I can hear it even over the substantial road noise.

Probably better to ask Randakk himself.
