Thermo fan switch

#1

Post by tom60103 »

It looks like I need to replace my fan switch on the 78. Does anyone know where to get one? I think I read there was a replacement from an auto (NAPA) but I can't find the thread. Thanks

Thanks Cyborg. I'm going to take this one apart and see if I can get more life out of it. I may take you up on that offer.

a toggleswitch is only a couple bucks and if it is no good you aren`t out 90. like I was. just keep an eye on the temp gage and you will find you hardly ever need it.

I would never rely on a toggle switch. The wing temp gauge is slow to react and it is too easy to overlook your engine heating up.

i agree. its another distraction while your riding. would have to be mounted on the handlebars near the grip, would have to be water proof, etc. etc. before i would do that, i would wire to be on all the time. but the best solution is to get it working correct, what ever the problem is

It is waterproof and is mounted alongside where the choke knob used to be, just left of the ignition switch. down is off, up is on, and I don`t ever have to use it unless I am in town and it is a hot day, also I keep an eye on the temp gage at a slow stoplite. I think a person can tell if his bike is running hot with or without a gage, by the heat it makes itself. but I don`t question my temp gage, I trust it. I think a good factory temp gage is necessary when using a toggle switch as well as knowing your motor and when it is too hot.
I don`t mean to argue, I am just sour to new electronic parts that are no good and can`t be returned.

not a problem. its your bike. and its just my opinion. i have seen a number of bikes that had a toggle switch on the fan. i myself have an override sw that allows me to turn the fan on any time i wish. i also have the normal temp activated circuit in place as well . and if the temp is high enough, my fan will run even if the key is off. i also have an indicator light that lets me know when the fan is on. to each is own

I replaced the switch I got off ebay. Fan now comes on when it should. Thanks for the feedback though.

i have good used ones for $25 shipped priority USPS. Most of the time the fan will com on to maintain the temp gauge with the needle straight up. I would ck the wiring, the fuses, and even the fan to make sure the problem is the temp sw
