Mystery connector - '78 GL
You guys need to have somebody to laugh at so here goes. I have looked all over can't seem to find a clear illustration, but I'm trying to figure out where this connector goes.
1978 GL 1000 - bike was running and everything seemed normal. Headlight inop, but PO said bulb burned out. Does this go up into the headlight shell? It's the connector next to the regulator:

Re: Mystery connector
Looks like the connector for a fairing.

Try tracing it back.
More than likely you're going to find a bunch of those blue plastic wire splicers. If you're lucky.... (+1 on the fairing wires)

No wonder I couldn't figure it out. I sure wasn't thinking fairing. Thanks fellas. Great collection of wisdom here - and it cannot be overstated how valuable it is - especially to those of us with non-'wing backgrounds.Lucien Harpress wrote:Try tracing it back.

And I guess I am pretty lucky. Somebody did a pretty decent job of weaving it into the harness at the junction box. Had me fooled. I thought it was factory.
Besides, the is NGW. We don't need no stinkin' fairing connections!

They are actually called Scotch Locks. Or at least the real ones made by 3M.Lucien Harpress wrote:Try tracing it back.

Re: Mystery connector - '78 GL
Guess I'll just leave it. Not hurting anything. I won't use it, but the next generation might want to dress this one.
Does its presence mean this bike was definitely dressed at one time?

Yeup. No reason to do the work of installing it otherwise. If you examine the frame closely you will probably be able to spot places where the Fairing support was clamped on.
