Kick starter 76 LTD
I decided to breakout the ole kick start for my LTD. I figured it has been sitting there all this time so why not give it a whirl! Inserted in the proper spot, pushed down on it, and nothing. I mean nothing. No compression, fluttering, grunting or anything. Just went straight down with no tension whatsoever. My question is, could the PO have disconnected the linkage or something???? My bike runs great and compression is 150 or higher in all 4. What is missing here. Sure am glad I tested it now rather than be in an emergency situation. Any answers? Thanks

Re: Kick starter 76 LTD
This ain't gonna help, but it's a similar problem. Mine wouldn't move. When I had the engine off to replace the stator, I cleaned the parts up, the part the lever sticks in to was rusted and stuck. I got it so it worked off the frame. I put everything back. It turned the engine over once then exhibited the symptoms you speak of. I believe there is a ratchet inside the back case cover that has stuck.

Re: Kick starter 76 LTD
That may explain it. I don't think I am going to worry about it for now, particularly if it involves pulling the engine or requires more than just a quick fix. If I ever(fat chance) decide to sell it I of course well repair it then. Thanks for the input guys!

Hopefully, a GURU will come by and let us know a better answer. Does your lever spring back up?

Check that you have this "cam" lever in place and fitted correctly

Re: Kick starter 76 LTD
I'll check, I feel sure the circlip went back in right, woulda come off in the garage. Never saw it. But, yeah, I would think that would be where the problem is. Except my lever bounces back up, and there's no spring on that post.

Re: Kick starter 76 LTD
Are you holding the clutch open when you kick it? That'll have that effect.

Not that I recall. Can't hardly walk & chew gum, so I doubt it. So, in neutral but leave the clutch out. Thanks. Czech it in the AM.
