"Off Idle Cure mod" question?

#1

Post by olchris »

After fitting the Randakk Master Kit i thankfully was able to get my GL1000 running in an acceptable manner, though me being me forgot to do the air/idle mod.. eg solder and redrill to .038... Consequently runs great apart from a "flat spot" off idle, deeerrrrrrr!

Now that i have stripped the bike and have the carbs on bench i looked at the "jets" in mind to do modification...

History! .... On fitting the master kit i did "try" to remove these jets and were a bit stubborn so i left them..

Now that i realise that a flat spot is evident i eventually got the 4 jets out and one did have a partial blockage from............. silicone.........

Measuring jet sizes (110) they are about .041-3 !!!!!!!!!! (using my oxy welding tip cleaners as a measure device)

The big question is do i need to reduce the size of the jet by .004-5 thou...?????? to acheive no flat spot... I understand that increasing pipe diameters increases flow volume but im confused now!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance!

That is correct. The year of your bike might change how much. I don't remember for sure, but I think 76's were a little different. Getting slower in the Jets is pretty easy, but finding the right drill is important. For my 77, it requires a 100 jet size, which I think was a 62 micro drill. In Aus you probably can get mm size bits, so 1mm is a 100 jet size.

This source says a 61 micro drill. (I think 100 is in between the 61 and 62)

Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
