I think this is being over analysed. Wire it to the Brown/White (gauge lights) or the Black/Red in the left faux tank cover. Both circuits are switched. If you are worried about voltage drop due to dirty, old connections, perhaps its a sign to clean and/or replace them. The tolerance of the voltmeter most likely exceeds any voltage drop.

Re: Easiest wire to tie in a Voltmeter?
I just installed a relay in the voltage sense wire to the regulator. This was to correct an overcharging issue due to voltage loss thru the ignition switch. I plan to add an idiot light off of the sense wire to monitor the charging voltage. As soon as I find the perfect spot to put it. This is a switched 12V. It is almost a direct connect to the battery. Just goes thru a relay.

The easiest and cleanest way to install a voltmeter on a gl1000 that I had never seen. Both the wiring and the place where you installed it. In my opinion, just great.
