Expansion tank reservoir problem?

#1

Post by guidowitz »

Interesting thing happening. After replacing the thermostat and coolant temp fan switch and replacing all the coolant, I get a discharge from the expansion reservoir as my '76 warms up. This stops once the fan comes on, but I'm loosing a cup of antifreeze every time during the warm up period. I have "burped" the system to get all the air out (or so I believe). I have no ideas as to why this should be happening. Not a clue. Any ideas?

Happened on my '82. Turned out, I had re-installed the reservoir tank hoses in reverse.

Good news.....I switch the ports on the top of the reservoir and it looked like from the size of the ports, I had them reversed!
I will attempt another warm-up tomorrow to see what happens...

Thanks for the good tip!

+1 on what Mcgovern61 said..
I had the same issue on my GL1000...took me a while to figure it out, but it was due to reversed hoses.... anim-cheers1
