I agree Robin and I clearly stated that I would only use SS with anti-seize. But I still stick to my feelings on SS in aluminum. I prefer not to use SS on aluminum. That is my opinion and probably not worth much. Back in the old days, when I was an active Ham Radio operator, I tried SS hardware on aluminum antennas and I can't think of a single time I was pleased with the results.

Checked the oil screen (always one difficult screw!) quite clean with a few tiny flakes of black steel, probably out of transmission. No sludge to speak of. Neutral switch was clean and checked with a meter showed continuity so seems OK. Replaced the oil screen screws with some stainless bolts I had. Used a product called NoOx (I think, or something like that) which I had on the shelf. It is sold to prevent oxidation in electrical terminals between aluminum and steel or copper and steel. Should work. Ordered Robins kit for the transmission cover. Haven't decided for sure about the water pump. I have changed a couple in the bike and it is not too difficult so may let it slide. Turned over the engine by hand since it has been setting for a couple of years, was a little stiff at first but rolled over easily after the second or third turn. Pulled the starter to clean and paint. Checked it on a battery and seems OK. Don't know if it will work under load.
