Adding a light

Hi,
I would like to add another light to the goldwing.
I would position it on the side of the bike.

To be honest, it's more about the look I would like to achieve than function.
My question is, can the battery deal with a second light?

I would think yes because I removed the radio, the speakers, etc, which must have drawn some current. So that unused currect could feed the new light.

I know a LED would use less current, but I can have a free headlight with a H4 bulb in it.

Anybody done this?

Not quite. I mounted a 4 1/2" light on both sides on the engine case guards. This gives me 3 lights. Both are H3 and the headlight is a H4. I replaced all of them wih LED. Super bright, fit perfectly as they are replacement bulbs and STILL draw less current than one H4 bulb.

But to answer your question, having 2 Halogen H4 bulbs will tax the stock charging system at anything lower than 5K RPM.

LED would be the way to go as it requires less power. The biggest limitation is the stator output, not the battery. You might also changed out your tail/brake lights with LEDS as well, to lower the demand on the charging system

I had 2 H3 and an H4 on one of my 1200's and at idle the voltage would drop below 12v. If I'm not mistaken the 1200 had a bigger stator and put out more wattage. So on your 1100 I'm pretty sure that you'll kill your battery riding around town with that same setup.

yeah, the 1200 has more output..... gotta love it when I put the brakes on my 78 and the headlight dims
