Cut down vetter windshield
I've seen Lynx on here....did a search to see if I could get how it performs .....was wondering how a vetter fairing cut down windshield does riding....I like the wind in my face but not all of it......let me know.....pics are always good.....

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
Personally, I prefer a very short windshield. Home Depot sells an acrylic sheet in various thicknesses. I used that to try various heights before cutting a Pacifico windshield.

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
what do ya use to cut the shield? Jig saw/bandsaw? I've heard some folks use a torch to burnish the edge after it is cut and sanded a bit.
getting a uniform curve on a compound curve could be a challenge - unless you want a shorter one than first envisioned... Any tips out there? I bet there is something on you tube...
I have an old one I can practice on.

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I have shaped windshields with a propane torch. It takes hour and hours doing little areas at a time. If you try to go fast you will bubble it and ruin it. I have been told the best way is to use a pizza oven but never had access to one.

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I have one of my windshields cut down to 7 inches above the fairing. I love it in the summer time, but in the fall of the year, I swap it out for the taller version. Also when riding on the high-way, you better have a pair of ear plugs...
Here's how I did it... http://www.vetterowners.com/threads/sho ... creen.201/

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I cut mine using a roto-zip tool. I drew what I wanted with a marker, after using masking tape. Take your time and edge comes out fine.

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I did see on one of Lynx posts that he made his around 15 inches tall.....so I was thinking about it....then I just went and did it.....I taped it off.....drew it out... Then took the porta ban saw and started cutting ....now it's about tip of my nose high riding.....I can see over it perfect ....get some wind in the face.....no real buffeting .....some wind noise from the type of helmet I've got.....all and all....I like it.........

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I cut them with a saber saw and a very fine toothed blade. Cut slow so you can control the heat. And by all means, practice on some scrap pieces. I covered the entire area with masking to keep from scratching the surface and drawing a guide line.

Re: Cut down vetter windshield
I cut down a regular windshield do I could see over it, but the wind in my face was more than I wanted.
I then used a windshield from a snowmobile, the top couple of inches tip forward, redirecting the wind up over my head.
Works VERY well.

Funny.
Weird thing is, on my laptop the photo is upside-down, but when I view it on my phone, it's right-side-up.
