I cleaned the carbs and got it started, rode it a mile. Next up are the the caliper kits. The radiator cap is stuck, I lubed it up for tomorrow. No leaks so far.

I got the cap off, changed the antifreeze, rebuilt the calipers, bled the brakes and took her for the 1 mile test loop. It rides well, brakes are still a little soft, I assume the new pads need time to beak in and I still have some air to get out. The old tires haven't cracked yet but I want a set of Michelins like my 79 has.
I removed the trunk and bags, they need some bracket work and crack repair. And I like the bike without them. The turn signals on the trunk bracket don't fit the stock taillight bracket so for now I added some drag specialties red lights in the rear for signals and can hook up the running lights also.

Sounds like you're well on the way to getting your bike on the road. Read through your posts and you haven't said you've changed your timing belts. Is that in your plans, because it should be!

It is on my list, thanks for the reminder though. On the last bike I got Gates belts from rock auto. This one had new ones when it was parked but that was 20 years ago. I rode 15 miles on slow roads on the old tires today. I put half of a quart of Rislone in it to help clean up the engine inside. The slight smoking seems to have gotten better already. I topped off the tank with no alcohol 93 octane, it seems to be running well and so far, no drips.

I'm buried in work dealing with the 2 bike collections of cb750's I bought last month. I'll most likely park the 78 wing until I get something ready to sell. I can barely move around in the shop.

Gates belts ordered from rock auto, the 2 of them are $28 to my door. Way better than the $70 each my Honda parts supplier asked. I got caught in the rain today, the first time it's been wet in at least 20 years.

I couldn't help but ride it today since it's warm in November. I took a chance on the belts and did OK. There's a small oil drip near the fuel pump. So far that's all. It's got 60 recent miles on it. The exhaust smells a little rich but it could be the seafoam in the fuel removing carbon from the chambers. The new timing belts have shipped and should be here yet this week.

Oil drip near the fuel pump can often be the tach drive seal. Easy fix.

This one just became my official keeper. I bought a bunch of 750's and a 76 wing to resell, yet this bike is the one I got running first.

The tach isn't working. I haven't taken time to check it or the cable yet.

It was warm and the rain the last few days washed off all the salt so I rode it to the gas station and topped off the tank, I had time to troubleshoot the tach. It has a broken cable near the bottom, I spun the cable in a drill and the tach seems to operate normally. I ordered a motion pro cable and I think I have a seal for a 750 which is the same part.
Soon the K1 750 project will be off the lift and the wing can get the new timing belts installed. It's running a little ragged so I'll check the plugs and points while it's lifted.

It's amazing to be able to ride mid-January. Saw a couple of bikes yesterday. Glad you are enjoying your '78.
