Shop manual and valve clearance

#1

Post by odyssey »

Are the valve clearance values for the '76 GL1000 intake and exhaust different in the shop manual? They all show 0.1 mm in the Clymer, but they are different in Octane's procedure: 0.1 mm intake and 0.13 mm exhaust...

Can anyone recommend an updated link to the .pdf of the '76 GL1000 shop manual? Thank you!

I see .1 mm ( .004 in ) for intake and exhaust measured cold in the Honda GL1000 Factory Service manual.

Yea 1000 are .004" intake and exhaust. I believe the 1100 went to .005" on the exhaust.

A little looser on the exhaust won't hurt. Like the .005" that the 1100 calls for.

I noticed that starting in about 1978 the other metric bikes went to larger clearance on the exhaust. But they were air cooled engines. The goldwing is of course liquid cooled so Honda probably didn't feel it necessary for that first model.
