ok, so after i finally finished my waterpump and got it going with no leaks(83 gl1100) i took it out for a test spin and the shifter is sticking....that is to say that when i shift a gear the lever doesnt return to center...i have to physically move it back with my toe in order to get to the next position to shift up or down....so.....did i get the neutral switch hooked back in wrong somehow maybe? or is it some other thing.....saw on here one post about the gasket being to thin, but that was the only post i could find about the issue....any ideas or experience with this?
thanks!

yep. Cheap aftermarket gaskets or over tightening of the screws or reusing a old gasket will cause this. there is only a hair of clearance between the shifter mechanism and inside of the front cover.

Re: sticky shift lever after water pump replacement
I assumed as much.
Figure I got the neutral switch on goofy, or its the gasket.
I already ordered a new gasket from partzilla.
I was careful to tighten the bolts to 9 fp...so i thought.
Oh well, looks like I'm going back in....but at least the water pump is right!!!

Ted - something I picked up along the way - make sure the hole in the neutral switch is down so the switch can drain. Nothing to do with your shift problem but since you're messing with it.........

Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
