MAC exhaust manifold /head pipes.

#1

Post by 5speed »

Finish appears good. Same quality as the exhaust system I ordered for the shadow 500.
Bolt on..not even close. :-?
I'm hoping after some heating and cooling down cycles from riding the pipes will relax.

Wow! Rednecks in Nova Scotia. Who knew? Nice job getting them on there. You should try lining up Valkyrie headers sometime. More of the same.

A little south of you in Maine, that would be Yankee ingenuity, still redneck but sounds better. Hope it takes its new shape.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thank you for two things. First, I now know that the headers I pulled from my parts bike are from MAC. Second, this answers why the PO had SAWED OFF one of the mounting flanges:

I ended up sawing off the second flange, then removing one of these from a rusted out OEM header, (NOT easy, btw)

and having it welded in place:

Nobody can tell that the sides don't match because it's underneath.

I would hope that MAC got some feedback on this fitment issue...

Hard to believe a company would go to all the trouble of building an assembly jig and not check it for accuracy.

Having much prior experience with MAC products, can't really say it's a surprise. They have the benefit of offering systems to fit bikes that many other companies have given up supporting, and their stuff is very inexpensive. Chrome quality is usually pretty good, but their build quality has never been known as top notch.

Oh they did. they sent me an e-mail asking for a review of their product.
I sent one...funny they haven't posted it.
I also replied to the person that sent it to me mentioning they haven't posted it..
I just sent another review in.
the finish on these appears to be of good quality.
I wish I could say the same about the fit.
It took me over 2 hours to install the right hand manifold because the pipe for the #3 cylinder doesn't come close to lining up with the exhaust port.
I had to "tie" the bike to my tractor and fasten a ratchet strap to the pipe and a post and use the ratchet strap to pull the pipe over so it would line up with the exhaust port.
In this day and age of CADCAM there is no excuse for poor workmanship.
Lets see if they post it..

the flanges on mine aren't fixed either..didn't help the fact the pipe was off as much as it was though.

I recently bought a DelKevic SS exhaust system and my system almost went on like CAKE!
However, I have shaky hands and the exhaust gaskets kept falling out of place each time I tried to line up a header.
The solution: Three very little dabs of Hot glue between the gaskets and header flanges. Worked like a charm.
Guess I Kan't do too much about the shakes or the pink elephants I keep seeing.
