1100 rear air shocks (again!)

#1

Post by Track T 2411 »

Early this summer, I replaced the seals on the stock rear air shocks on my 1100 after having significant loss of fluid through the lines, as well as total loss of air pressure over the course of a few days or a few hundred miles. The problem seemed solved, with another 1k or so miles put on through the summer. Now it's doing the same thing: air pressure drops significantly during a ride (100-200 miles) and just sitting, in 3-4 days (always on the center stand). When I go to check the pressure or add air, I'm greeted with a spray of ATF, and it's no small amount. There doesn't seem to be any leakage at any of the air line connections, but I didn't replace any of those o-rings, either. What puzzles me most is why I'm getting fluid in the supply lines. I very carefully measured the ATF when I refilled the shocks, and they were completely drained during the seal replacement. Any suggestions?

If I recall when I re-did my 1200 (several years ago, and I do have CRS), there was nothing to keep the ATF from coming back up through the connector to the air lines. I would bet you have a micro leak somewhere in the line(s) or connectors

The manual recommends that when removed, they be stored in an upright position to prevent leaking out the hoses
