GL1000 friction plate Q?

#1

Post by 77Gowing »

I have ordered 7 DISK A CLUTCH FRICTION plates, 6 PLATE B clutch plates, 1 dreaded damper plate.
I cannot seem to locate a friction plate with the large tangs that top off the stack. In the microfiche it is listed as part number five and is not available.
What to do? None of the Honda part dealers seem to have this part.

Suggestions? :o

Quick, I'm running out of cool weather to work in so I need this part now. lolol

I would post in the wanted forum for a good used one. Otherwise if I had to I'd re-use the old plate if there were still some measurable friction material left on it.

I guess I'll reuse the one I have if I have not damaged it along with the other parts I've gone through. There is little chance that the friction material has any wear, but if it is warped or not flat, guess I can go after market but they all sell as a set.
So if I go after market I'll have to pluck some more from my money tree.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

When I replaced the friction plates on the 1976 I used the EBC aftermarket kit which included the odd sized clutch plate your looking for in their kit. I don't think you can buy the aftermarket piece as a stand alone purchase, yet check E Bay vendors as there maybe an option for the single plate.
Current Bikes:

1966 CL77 - Honda 305cc - Dual purpose - "Gentleman's Scrambler" was a period moniker.
1967 CL175K0 - Low production number with #802 engine serial- winter 2019/2020 full restoration.
1972 CB350F - Baby Four with low mileage - Cosmetic refresh to the next level 2021/2022.
1978 CB550K - Very original bike with only 7499 Km. from new - light cleanup and refresh done.
1983 CB1100F - Canadian model - DOHC Supersport in pristine low kilometre condition from new.
1984 GL1200 - Standard model in showroom condition - two owner bike from new.
1984 CX650E - Restored summer 2017 - a rare Eurosport model - excellent one owner bike.

If that friction plate you're looking for has it's own part number then another option is to do a google search with that part number and see what happens. You'd be surprised at how many vendors including those on ebay still have NOS parts available.

My 77 cb750 is in need of a new choke cable but that particular part number is discontinued and is superseded by another that from what I read works ..... but doesn't fit quite as good as the genuine one so I did a google search on the number I wanted and sure enough they're still out there, I just had to look a little harder.

Thanks all, I just ordered the EBC aftermarket kit. I did a hard search for my part number and came up with nuttin.
IT was fifty bucks for the whole kit, but will only use the one I need with the OEM parts. Now if I can get it done correctly I'll be ridin soon.

If it were me I'd use the entire new EBC kit and sell or take back the OEM plates. Just my opinion...

A couple of reasons. First the EBC was sold as a set and EBC is a very reputable company with high quality parts. I've installed EBC clutch kits and brake pads and always been pleased with the fit and function. Second the OEM kit you have is incomplete and in my mind worthless without the all of the parts. You can probably return the OEM plates you bought to help offset the cost of the EBC kit. If you mix and match you end up with an incomplete EBC kit which you will have a hard time selling and not worth hanging on to. And you are not insured the Frankenstein clutch pack will work as intended.

It's not like you go through a clutch pack every few years. I've seen clutches last for 100K+ miles and still be in spec.

Hi,
In France, we have a Honda Genuine Parts Dealer. he buys back stocks of parts and resells them. I have already bought pieces that can not be found. For example, he has in its stock the 2 references of the clutch disc 22202392000 and 22202371000 for 12 € piece. These are OEM parts.
It can be useful in some cases:
