Frame Paint

#1

Post by PaulW »

Looking to do a few touch ups to the frame. This will be a brush on application so are there any suggestions for best color match/product?

Thanks

I used Rustoleum gloss black with good result. I used a small foam brush.

VHT has a roll bar, and chassis paint that exactly matches 40 year old frame paint. From my own experience brushed on leaves a distinguishable blob...goes on thick. Tape off at a joint and spray away. Just remember tape will leave an edge...easy on the tape

+1 on the Rustoleum gloss black. I used a tooth pick to touch up some small chips with great results.

Try Majic Tractor Paint. (with the "J") I get it at Tractor Supply. It comes in spray can, gallon and brush. I've used it on anything that needs to be tough and this stuff is awesome. I painted a chrome fender gloss black and when I totaled the bike hitting a car, the fender dented but not a single scratch or chip!

It comes in all tractor colors, so a bit limited in shade, but still black, red, blue, etc There is clear as well. The only thing is its 24 hours between coats. I put on a dust coat, then let it tack up, I then hit it good to cover, when done, another light coat. So I had 2 color coats and let it sit. I cleared it the same way and called it done. It's the closest paint I've found that is almost as durable as powder coat. Great on frames.

I've found Hammerite to be the best non-automotive paint to use for touch-ups and such. I'm not impressed with Rustoleum. Unfortunately, I'm unable to find semigloss black in the US so gloss is what I have to use. It's a very tough paint, even in a spray can. Oh, by the way, you can get it in a non-hammered finish.
