Cleaning up battery area

#1

Post by Wangthang »

Now the battery area is starting to get on my nerves...lol.
Any ideas or pictures are appreciated. I know there's a lot there, but would it all possibly mount behind the battery box? I know accessability would be bad, and dirty also.
What I am trying do do is move all, or most of the electrics from around the battery on a 77 Goldwing.

On your chevy truck?

Friendly reminder to tell us what you're working on so we have a clue what you are asking.

Mount what behind the battery box? What are you trying to accomplish?

Who, what, where and when. Lots of space on your posting page to lay down the specifics. Trust me, I've burned up a keyboard on this forum in lame attempts to explain some of the predicaments I've gotten into. Please I was not intimating that your post is lame.

The factory config, if relatively unmolested, fits into the rubber "holder" aft of the battery box. The wiring routes upward (and downward) and is concealed by the side cover. In my mind, out of sight, out of mind. I've made a few improvements in that area, but not in the interest of tidying up, but in replacing charred wiring.

I am not looking to use the sidecover. It makes it look bulky in that area.

Ahh. Then that certainly makes a difference. Tank side looks great without the cover. Not so the battery side. Like you originally said, there's definitely going to be more than one way to skin a cat. Leaving the harness unmolested would limit your options. But, if you're willing to potentially do some slight rewiring, I'd think the solenoid and associated wiring would be quite easily concealed elsewhere.

A good start would be a lithium ion battery. Would be really cool to put all the electrics in the battery box. The battery I have is huge, and heavy.

If you can use a physically smaller battery, you could move something into that extra space. Probably not much, though, it's already packed pretty tight. The fuel tank is right against the battery, so there's no other room. No experience with Lithium batteries, but the original is large for a reason.

I found a lithium ion battery with lots of cca, and small footprint. 4 1/2"wide, 4 1/4" tall, and 3 1/2"deep. 360 cold cranking amps. With that foot print the starter solenoid, and the rectifier would fit inside the battery box. Yeah.
