I have a 77gl project bike. All is going well with the build -- except -- the fuel tank ! When checking the fuel lines going to the petcock using air, I can hear the air going into the tank from one line. Not sure which one is reserve. The other line seems to be blocked(no air thru). Any Ideas on how to unclog line.I tryed pushing a wire thru, no luck.
Thanks

Re: GL1000 fuel tank
I've attempted a bit of clutch cable (or comparable), frayed on the end, and chucked in a drill to clear it out. Results depend on how blocked the line is, but it can't hurt.

+1^^^^ In my case I used an old speedo/tach cable.Lucien Harpress wrote:I've attempted a bit of clutch cable (or comparable), frayed on the end, and chucked in a drill to clear it out. Results depend on how blocked the line is, but it can't hurt.

Re: GL1000 fuel tank
I too used a piece of spedo cable and drill to roto-ruter it. spray a little carb cleaner in the tube and drill away and repeat. Protect your stuff from splattering cleaner wear glasses. try not to puncture the screen when you get thru to the end

Dave at http://www.cyclepsycho.com/ used to keep cleaned up spares on the shelf. Just an option.

Re: GL1000 fuel tank
I was also able to open mine this way, pay attention to the direction of how the cable is wound. I was a rooter rooter guy once, this is better.

Re: GL1000 fuel tank
Hello All,
Thanks for all your input regarding the blocked fuel line. I tryed it all with no results. It was the reserve line that was blocked. I was able to get about 2" from the end. Seems the rust just got packed in and I could not get past that point !!! I decided to try to open the line by drilling a hole in it, about 1.5" before the screen. The idea was it would be better to have reserve without the screen, than no reserve at all. A freind had the long drill bit to do the job. We flattened the to of the tube with a long flat drift. Then drilled a 3/8" hole in the tube. Used a little air to blow out the line and I now have reserve.
