Propeller shaft removal

#1

Post by raiddrten »

I removed the engine the other day and successfully removed the circlip to accomplish the task. The u-joint at the front is a greasy mess and I assume the entire shaft is this way. My concern is with how to pull the propeller shaft so i can clean it up. It slides back and forth somewhat, but does not seem to readily pull out.

My question is, should it pull straight out of the spline, or is some more disassembly required at the final drive?

There is an identical circlip buried deep in the female coupler on the other end of the propeller shaft, too.
Scoop out that grease, remove the circlip and the propeller shaft will pull forward out of the swingarm.

yep. deep inside that coupling on the right side in the pic above is a Cir Clip. Once that is remove the outer part (looks kind of like a deep walled socket) slides off the end then the shaft will come out the front of the swing arm.
