Speedometer and Tachometer Mounting Bracket/Stay

#1

Post by OldRider2 »

I was going to switch the Speedometer and Tach. mounting bracket/stay on my 1977 GL for another one when I noticed the Choke cable bracket on the '77 is about 2 3/4" long and on the replacement 1976 Speedo/Tach set about 2". It's interesting that there is a 3/4" difference from the 76 gauge set to the 77. I'm assuming it is a 76 gauge set because the faceplates are green.

My concern is the how much it might effect the throw of the choke cable.

Disregard my post. I've pulled the old one off and will clean it up, paint, and reinstall. I think it still odd there is a difference in the brackets just in a couple of years.

It shouldn't affect the throw of the button, just how easy the button is to grab (the higher one would probably be easier to get at).

Thanks Sidecar Bob. I pulled it off yesterday and painted it, mounted Tach and Speedo, now getting ready to reinstall and "stuff" all the wires back in the headlight bucket.
