I'm in for one! I spun a bearing in my '80, because I thought the oil was ok. I want to save my naked '81!

Re: What a stupid way to check the oil on a motorcycle!
I had a dipstick on my 1100 when I got it but preferred the sight glass check after the PO had filled it to the dipstick mark, which over filled the engine. Found that out when I drained it for the first time and realised the sight glass wasn't dirty, it was just full of oil!
Sure Cyborgs dipstick is a quality product with a mark for the correct level.
Maybe Honda put the sight glass in to test us to see whether or not we are fit enough to ride a big bike!
My CB1300 also has a sight glass, but no centre stand, can be a right pain to check the oil and coolant levels!

Re: What a stupid way to check the oil on a motorcycle!
I put one on my 80, with a fairing, on the last run of these. It is definitely worth it. I can relate to using a flashlight and crawling on the ground to check my oil...crazy design for “mature” riders.

Cyborg, do you have some pics of these custom dipsticks? I think I'd like one if you make another run of them.

Re: What a stupid way to check the oil on a motorcycle!
Not convienent true, but there are worse bikes to check the oil level. Riding buddy has a 1800 Raider and I laugh when he goes through the process of checking the level in that bike.

Dipstick, sounds like a good idea. Where does it mount, down into the oil filler hole?
I normally use Track T's method, but these GLs aren't getting any lighter to tip them very much.

you replace the oil drain bolt with a banjo bolt which also serves to hold the bottom of the dipstick.OldRider2 wrote:Dipstick, sounds like a good idea. Where does it mount, down into the oil filler hole?
