Post by kenai »

Hi All - rebuilt carbs and had major high idle -3K- on start up. checked and sure enough gas in the air box; pull carbs and see gas also under the #2 cap area in the pockets around where air jets are screwed in.. that's odd! vac test the carbs and they hold 20lbs just fine .....hmmm! any thoughts on this one? also there is another vac test that I am trying to locate; ...thxs kenai

Could be the carb to plenum seals or the main seal that goes between the halves of the plenum. Which carb kit did you use?

In the pockets where the air jets screw in.—— ???Shouldn’t be anything up there. If you invert the carbs without draining the bowls fuel will go up there. There is a hole from the chamber under the kidney shaped plate which goes straight down to the bowls.

Clean, dry, caps off, turn fuel on and watch carefully. This can tell you if it’s plenum gasket, carb-to-plenum gasket, of floats. Carb - yo -plenum gaskets will pool a bit on the plenum side of the Venturi before running down the carb past the jets or back to the plenum.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
