Cam seals

#1

Post by todd54219 »

I have been having issues with my 76 wing misfiring. Too long of a story for now. While looking for the cause I found oil in where the points are located on the end of the left head. I am going to order a new seal and I have a question. Can I pull the old seal and put the new one in without pulling the cam out. I think I know the answer but if I don't have to, I would prefer to not go that far.
Please let me know your opinions.

Thank you in advance.

Yes.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

It seems I have heard that some people also put some sealer when doing this.... anyone recall this?

You can put some sealer around the O.D. of the seal. Gaskcinch, or Permatex aviation sealant is what I use.

Thank you all for the good information. I will use some sealer on the OD of the seal. Hope to have the parts by next weekend. I have some time off work to get this done. Also getting another set of body panels painted. I am keeping the originals but I want a set with new paint and stripes. Now I just have to pinpoint my ignition/fuel problem. Been very frustrating. I will let you all know when I figure it out, if I can point to the problem. I am trying one thing at a time and also trying not to just throw money at it.
